Akiko Monden has practised labour and employment law since
starting her legal career in 2001, and specialises in advising
and representing employers. She has extensive experience in
advising domestic and multinational corporations on various
employment law issues, including restructuring and downsizing,
poor performance management, health and safety in the
workplace, remuneration, discrimination, harassment and union
activities.
Ms Monden’s expertise stretches into areas of law which
often become relevant in resolving employment issues, such
as personal data protection, outsourcing of work and employee
inventions. She routinely drafts and reviews documents such
as employment contracts and rules of employment; conducts
investigations of alleged sexual harassment and other
misconduct, and advises on the steps to take based on the
results; and represents employers in negotiations (eg, to seek
voluntary resignation from an employee), collective bargaining,
litigation, mediation and arbitration.
Ms Monden is a native speaker of Japanese and English.
