Saúl Santoyo is the partner in charge of the litigation department
at Uhthoff, Gómez Vega & Uhthoff, SC, a Mexican law firm
founded in 1905 specialising in IP, corporate and commercial
law, and recognised as the leading IP practice in Mexico.
Mr Santoyo’s main practice focuses on IP litigation and
enforcement, anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting issues, domain
name disputes and counselling. His experience comprises
complex patent and trademark litigation, including legal actions
regarding the correction of pipeline patents’ life terms and the
inclusion of use and formulation of pharmaceutical patents in

periodically published by the Mexican
Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), as well as designing and
implementing anti-counterfeiting programmes.
With over 20 years’ experience in intellectual property,
Mr Santoyo has been involved in handling enforcement actions
related to the protection of IP rights before authorities such as
the IMPI, the Mexican Copyright Office, the General Prosecutor’s
Office and other authorities that collaborate with anti-
counterfeiting efforts (eg, the Mexican General Customs
Administration and the Federal Commission for Protection
from Sanitary Risks). He also handles appeals heard by
judicial authorities, such as the Federal Court of Fiscal and
Administrative Affairs and the district and circuit courts.
Mr Santoyo is committed to offering a broad array of anti-
counterfeiting services to his clients, including designing and
implementing anti-counterfeiting programmes, gathering
information on the source of counterfeit goods through
intelligence activities and issuing strong public statements
designed to reinforce the general perception of IP rights
